Low cost ways to make your site known
September 9, 2011 No CommentsAdvertising is one of the most effective ways to inform the public about your online store. Unfortunately, it is also one of the most expensive. You can go to conventional media and buy ad space in newspapers, magazines, radio, TV and other online sites. Each one will mean plenty of cash out on your part. If you pick wisely, your announcement will mean a flood of new hits from consumers who are interested in the products or services you sell. But it will take a lot of sales to recoup your advertising expense.
The alternative that even the biggest companies resort to is sometimes known as below the line advertising. This means splashing the name of your website through other means. T-shirts, flyers, posters, and bumper stickers are the most common. But you can also put the name of your online store and its address in other items that are similarly inexpensive.
Think of ways that are truly unique. You can, for example, create giveaways where the wrapping carries your site’s name. Giveaways can be anything of value. Individually wrapped cookies, how-to pamphlets and seasonal tokens are possibilities.
Here’s one off the wall idea. Since the US is fast entering political season, you can order or make small tokens that say such things as “I like Obama,” “Anyone but Obama,” “Republicans forever,” or “Democrats forever.” Naturally the name of your site will be present under your message.
Yes, this is a political statement on your part, but if you distribute your tokens in areas where the recipients generally agree with your political views, the rewards should follow.
You can also have an apolitical message, one that is hard to refute. Messages like “USA Forever,” or “California is the best place in the world,” or “We’re still the land of the free” are easy sells.
What about “Letterman > Leno!” Or vice versa. You can even have universal messages like “Go Green,” “Save the Planet,” or “I love Mother Earth.” Of course you have to believe in the message yourself, just as much as you believe in your online store as a great business that’s going places.
