eCommerce News: Double-digit growth for eCommerce spending in Q1
June 10, 2010 7 CommentsAfter two years, the numbers are finally picking up. Digital marketing intelligence firm ComScore reported recently that eCommerce spending is up by 10 percent year-on-year. The first quarter spending figures have reached double digits for the first time since Q2 in 2008.
According to ComScore, consumers who earn $100,000 or more annually are driving the growth. However, the firm’s representatives are inauspicious about its continued upward trend if the economy remains sluggish.
“It’s the first positive sign of the return to strong consumer discretionary spending,” said Andrew Lipsman, ComScore’s Senior Director of Marketing Communications. “It does come with a caveat, especially with the market looking shaky. We hope it’s not short-lived.”
ComScore also reports that online retail is gaining traction, with a bigger share in overall multichannel retail.
